“One child, one teacher, one pen and one book can change the world.” – Malala Yousatzai

Ensuring children have the resources and ability to succeed is vital to their future and health – as well as that of  their community. Many children struggle to reach their full potential due to barriers including the costs of school supplies, extracurricular fees, and access to technology resources.

Each one of the 56.4 million elementary to high school students worldwide should have an opportunity to discover a groundbreaking medical treatment, become the next poet laureate, or run their own business one day. Unfortunately, many of them do not have the same opportunities afforded to other children born in more privileged environments. Difficult home lives, poor nutrition, lack of adequate healthcare, and lack of financial resources limit many children’s academic success.

There is some good news. In the U.S., the overall dropout rate has decreased from 9.7% to 5.3% as of 2018, which is in line with high school completion rates increasing from 88% to 94% between the years 2000 - 2019. This success fuels the drive to achieve higher education, from vocational training to associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degrees, doctoral programs and more – in turn, benefiting their community.
