Freedom means the supremacy of human rights everywhere. Our support goes to those who struggle to gain those rights or keep them. Our strength is our unity of purpose.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

Human rights are just that – the inherent rights that all citizens of the world are entitled to, regardless of race, gender, religion, or ethnicity. But many people around the world – and even here in the U.S. – continue to face discrimination and oppression, preventing the access to their basic human rights.

Human rights standards include a spectrum of issues ranging from civil to political and economic to social. For example, human traffickers' prey on the most vulnerable, affecting nearly 25 million people denying them their basic rights as human beings. Trafficking can take place in any community and the victims can range in age, race, gender, or nationality and include men, women, and children. Around the world, tens of thousands of children are forced to serve as soldiers in armed conflicts. Physical violence is experienced by every 1 in 3 women – usually the perpetrator being a current or former partner or spouse.

The United Nation’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights, published in 1948, establishes these rights as inherent to all human beings, worldwide, regardless of race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status. Before this becomes a reality, there is still more work to be done. Through your support of CFC charities working in this area, you can help ensure that all individuals are treated equally and with dignity.
